Are you using Laser Alignment?
Trust Tech to increase reliability

If you're NOT used to seeing such equipment on your site when installing a motor, pump, fan or gearbox, There's a very high likelihood that your equipment is not running as reliably as it could be.
Firstly, for those who are not aware...what is it?
Well, this is one of the kits our reliability services department carry around with them. It's an Easy-Laser, laser alignment kit for shaft alignment, plus a little laser alignment kit for belt drives too. Alongside a couple of new cases of shims (we've run out with the amount of alignments we've done recently).
What I'm still quite surprised about, is the amount of engineering personnel who don't see proper alignment on installation as important.
"Bob can do just as good a job with a steel rule!"
"That coupling can take misalignment!"
"We've never needed to do it!"
"We need the plant up and running, we'll get it properly aligned next week!"
Let me just explain this, and I know there are many of you out there who do get this. If you don't correctly align your equipment, be it a motor to pump, a motor to gearbox, or pulley to pulley. Then quite simply you will have reduced equipment life. That's because they will be misaligned.
Imagine your car wheels, if they're not aligned properly, you'll see irregular wear pattern on the tyres. Now imagine the bearings on your motor, pump, gearbox or fan unit. If there are not aligned then the bearings, frame, couplings etc will be under stress, they'll wear quicker and in most circumstances, surprise you with an in-service failure. Forward thinking companies shouldn't want that.
Don't bury your head in the sand when it comes to alignment and equipment reliability. If you have it done, well done. If not, you'll be losing money through downtime and lost production.
